How to rebalance your skin in just 7 days

So before you read this I need to say I AM NOT A QUALIFIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL. But I do have a particular set of skills when it comes to knowing what to do for my body in times of need. My new trick is in actually applying it now that I have started unravelling the reasons that I have been inadvertently sabotaging my own healing for the past 26 years (but that is for another blog another time:)).

One week ago I woke up as photographed in photo A. I had had a bit of a crazy week with hormones and the like, and this irritability in the skin had been building all week. I had woken up with a swollen eye, redness all over my face and it was just so sore. Today I have taken another shot as shown in photo B. Better, right? I have suffered with eczema, asthma and allergies for my entire life and with growing up with a mum in the natural health world I have some absolutely priceless knowledge when it comes to health and wellbeing without ever having to have lifted a book. However, I definitely haven’t been practising what I preach consistently enough and since the start of this year I have had some pretty stressful times in my life (moving house and changing jobs to say the least). So my normal health regime that puts me in balance has definitely been put on a back burner. Until now. So for any of you at the moment that are struggling with your skin whether it be eczema or acne, or whatever, these next few steps are the ABSOLUTE best place to start to get your body back to balance.

DITCH THE COFFEE

IT INFLAMES THE BOWL, STRESSES OUT THE ADRENALS AND DEHYDRATES THE SKIN. If you suffer with eczema or acne or anything else like them, they are a stress response on the body telling you that something is out of whack. When it strikes its hot and inflamed and it all comes from the gut having a DIRECT impact on your skin – if you’re inflaming the gut you’re inflaming your face. Period.

DITCH THE GLUTEN

IT INFLAMES AND CLOGS UP THE BOWL. Our. Bodies. Cannot. Digest. Gluten. At least not in the processed form that we get it today. It’s old news, it’s not necessary and I promise you you will feel 100% times better without it.

DITCH THE DAIRY

ITS NOT FOR HUMANS AND PRODUCES A TON OF PUS THAT OUR BODIES CANNOT DIGEST AND SO ENDS UP IN AN EXCESS PRODUCTION OF MUCAS IN THE BODY. I mean that’s probably about all really. But again, its causes so much inflammation for eczema and acne alike because it spikes the insulin levels in the body.

DRINK MORE WATER (and then more again)

TIMELESS. NEVER AGES. 2 LITRES. GO GET EM. Filtered or at least bottled.

UP THE VITS AND MINERALS

KALE, SPINACH, CUCUMBER, LEMONS, LETTUCE – (ROMAINE CALM, THERES SO MUCH TO GO AROUND). Zap them in a blender, put them in a juice, eat them in a salad, sautee them in some coconut oil, whatever, just eat them. (And finally the mainstream catches on to the 10 a day thing, go for 11 just to be sure).

LIMIT THE SUGAR INTAKE

AVOID PROCESSED SUGARS ANYWAY BUT EVEN THOSE IN HIGH SUGAR FRUITS. OPT FOR BERRIES OR GREEN APPLES INSTEAD.

MOVE MORE

GET THE BLOOD FLOWING.

MEDITATE

GET THE MIND SETTLED. Get some breath back into the body and start to find a little stillness. Do it before bed to get you into a good stead for a solid 8 hours where all of this hard work will be able to start doing its thing whilst you sleep.

If you don’t feel better after just one week of implementing this stuff in your life then go for another week until you do. You may get some headaches if you’re normally a coffee drinker, you may notice a shift in your bowl movements (usually for the better once your body is no longer under the stress from other stimulants in your diet and can focus on your digestion), or possibly some other funky stuff, but the idea of this is getting your body back to a base level so that you can really start working (with a therapist or on your own) to start figuring out your quirks and finally start living out of the best and most healthiest version of YOU. (This week I also cut out all alcohol and avoided tap water on my face when cleansing at night opting for filtered water instead. If you’re blessed with soft water or have a water purifier in your home, this method of maintaining moisture levels in the skin is actually pretty epic).
